Social Studies

Inquiry Model
---
Below is a link to a unit plan blueprint I designed with two colleagues for a first-grade classroom. The blueprint follows the Inquiry Design Model where students are scaffolded to engage in an analysis of social studies concepts in the world around them. This unit teaches students to consider how the landscape of an area influences an individual's lifestyle. The blueprint has specific plans to integrate social studies concepts such as location and human-environment interaction into different areas of the curriculum through literacy and community activities. I feel that integrating social studies into a variety of lessons allows students to explore relationships between subjects in a meaningful way. As I find more opportunities for cross-curricular connections I hope to integrate more social studies concepts into my lesson plans.
